Growth of Japanese Consumer Electronics Market Hits 10-Year High

According to a report published by JEITA on June 27, the total Japanese shipment volume of consumer electronics products stood at 1.4 trillion Yen in 2004, marking the first double-figure annual growth in ten years. In 2004 shipment volume of flat-screen televisions and DVD's had good performances with DVD recorders accounting for about 80% of the total DVD shipment volume. LCD televisions overtook CRT televisions in terms of shipment value. Although CRT televisions had a share of 50% share in the total shipment volume of color televisions, its shipment value only had a share of less than 30%. Car navigation offerings were the main force behind the growth of the audio market, as other offerings did not experience large growth.
